| Wave Mixer20/50P and 20/50E |
| Question |
Solution
|
| What are the reasons to choose a pneumatic versus an electric Wave Mixer? |
The pneumatic units are low cost and very reliable. They can be used in cold rooms and refrigerators since they do not generate heat. They have a higher load capacity and can be used for up to 60Kg loads. If you have compressed air available then the pneumatic unit is the best choice. If air is unavailable or undesirable, or if you also need heating then consider an electric unit. |
| I am running the unit from a compressed air cylinder. It doesn't last very long. Why? |
The air consumption of the rocker unit is 0.2 scfm. A typical cylinder will only last a few days. Use house air or a small portable compressor. |
| What factors influence mixing? |
The most important parameter is the amount of liquid fill in the bag. If the bag is more than 80% full there is little room for the liquid to move and mixing is very slow. The tilt angle and rocking rate also influence the mixing time. Both these parameters can be adjusted in the Wave Mixer for optimum operation. |
| I need to dissolve powders. How can I fill a mixing bag with powdered components? |
Wave supplies special bags called M*Bag which are specifically designed to dissolve solids. These bags have a large (1 inch diameter) screw cap port that makes introducing powders easy. Trials have shown the Wave Mixer to be very effective for dissolving solids. |
| Can I use any plastic bag on the Wave Mixer? |
Many bioprocessing bags can be used. It is critical that the plastic have sufficient flex strength to prevent fatigue cracking. Please call us for a list of bag materials we have tested. |
| Can I mix in presence of inert gas?
|
The headspace of the bag in the Wave Mixer can be purged with air, nitrogen or any gas. Typical bag materials have O2 permeability < 300 cm^3-mil/100in^2-day-atm. You can also leave the headspace empty. |

| Question |
Solution
|
| How does the unit sense
temperature? |
A platinum RTD sensor is placed under the bag to be warmed. The surface temperature is then measured and controlled. |
| Can I use the Wave Mixer to thaw bottles? |
Yes. Wave Mixers have been built to thaw square cross-section 1 liter serum bottles. The unit was designed to thaw 50 bottles at one time. Such machines can be engineered for specific applications.
|
| Can I set the heater surface
temperature to be below a certain limit? |
The unit controls surface temperature. It can be set to any value above ambient. This ensures that the product will not see a higher temperature. There is an additional mechanical safety thermostat. |
| Can I stack multiple bags? |
Currently, there is no way to stack holders. A custom solution could be engineered. Please call us.
|
| Can I get holders for special size bags? |
Yes. we can provide custom size holders or inserts.
|
| What is the maximum temperature possible? |
Typical LDPE films can operate from -40C to +75C. Special materials can be used for higher temperatures.
