Technology:
The Sterile Tube Fuser allows the quick connection of media bags to tanks and disposable containers. The portable Fuser can be used in any part of the process facility. No laminar flow hood is necessary.  Fused, 7/8 inch OD tubing allows a flowrate of at least 10 liters per minute.
Single-button operator interface
A single-button operator interface simplifies user interaction. A simple push on the button locks the lids and advances the program to the next operation. After each operation is complete, the button disengages and the touchpanel displays a prompt for the next operator action. The single-button control eliminates complex keypad sequences and reduces operator errors.
Blade temperature sensor
An infrared non-contact sensor measures the temperature of the cutting blade during all phases of the operation. Feedback control ensures that the blade is at the set temperature. Initially, the blade is heated to an elevated sterilization temperature then cooled to the cutting temperature. During welding heat is continuously modulated to maintain the temperature regardless of the tubing wall thickness. At the end of the weld cycle the blade temperature is monitored to ensure that the blade is cool for safe disposal.

The temperature sensor is a critical component for reliably welding large-bore tubing. Different temperature profiles can be programmed to accommodate tubing with different melting temperatures.
Intelligent tubing holders
Each set of tubing holders is coded with its tubing diameter. When the holders are installed in the Sterile Tube Fuser, the code plate is read, and the machine automatically loads the program stored for that tubing size. The tubing type must be entered by the operator. Two tubing types can be stored in the unit and are selected using the keypad. Other tubing types can be defined using the keypad or PC download. We keep a library of tubing types that can be downloaded or you can send us a sample of your specific tubing and we will configure your system with appropriate parameters.
Unique cutting angle
The cutting blade used in the Sterile Tube Fuser is the result of many years of research. It possesses electrical characteristics that enable it to be heated by the passage of electric current. The thermal characteristics are such that it does not bend or deform on thermal expansion. The blade material is inert and does not impart any toxic residue on the tubing. Each blade is made of a monolithic piece of stainless steel alloy and precision ground to exacting tolerances and coated with an FDA-approved PTFE non-stick coating.
PC/Printer interface
PC interface is provided. This can be used to monitor and log the welding operation for documentation purposes or to download welding sequences into the Sterile Tubing Fuser. A printer may also be connected to record time-stamped data for each tube weld.
PROGRAMMED motion control
For strong welds it is critical that the tubing be heated for the precisely correct time, be aligned perfectly and the cut ends be pressed together with a predetermined force. To accomplish this, the Sterile Tube Fuser has 3 independent motors (one for each axis) that position the blade and tubing holders. These motors are controlled by central microprocessors that position them at the exact position and time required. The time-motion-temperature profiles have been developed and optimized for each type and diameter of tubing.
Touchpanel simplicity
Touchpanel displays all weld data. Trends show the temperature profile during the weld operation.

Tubing Tested
The Sterile Tube Fuser is designed to join thermoplastic tubing. Some of the tubing brands that have been tested are listed below. The machine cannot be used to join silicone tubing or PTFE.

PharMed Ideal. Very high purity tubing. Can be autoclaved or SIP. Long life in peristaltic pumps. Standard STF-IRc is optimized for Pharmed.
C-Flex Advantage of translucency and lower cost. Not as strong as PharMed. Works fine in the STF-IRc but needs lower blade temperature setting.
Sanipure Clear, flexible, low-extractable.
Tygon Strong clear tubing. Fuses in the STF-IRc but needs lower blade temperature setting.
PVC Low cost but poor fatigue life. Cannot be autoclaved. May leach plasticizers. Works fine in the STF-IRc but needs much lower blade temperature setting.

All tubing trademarks are the property of their respective trademark owners.
