We have tabulated some common questions about the Hot Lips Tube Sealer. Please call or email if you have a question that is not covered here.
| Question | Solution |
| Can I cut through the seal? | Yes. The seal has a flat surface about 1/2 inch wide. It is easy to cut down the middle of this seal and still maintain sufficient material on either side to prevent leakage. |
| Can I seal filled tubing ? | Yes. The sealer will squeeze the liquid out of the way and make a normal seal. |
| Can I seal silicone tubing ? | No. Silicone does not melt and is a thermoset, so it is not possible to seal silicone tubing. Consider using C-Flex which has many of the same properties but can be sealed and also joined in our Sterile Tube Fuser. PTFE tubing cannot be sealed either, due to its thermoset material properties. |
| Do I need compressed air ? | No. The only utility needed is 110/220 VAC from a household type power outlet. |
| What about validation ? | Since the inner part of the tubing is never exposed there is no issue of contamination during the sealing operation. Validation should consist of evaluating reproducibility and seal strength to ensure consistent performance of the tube and tube contents to be used in the GMP process. Wave provides validation guidelines. |
| What tubing diameters can I seal? | Select sizes from 0.25 to 1.25 inch. Simply select the tubing type, ID and OD and the machine sets the correct positioning, pressure, heating, and cooling cycle. |
| Does wall thickness have an effect? | Yes. Thicker tubing needs more heating time. This is why you need to select the proper ID and OD of the tubing to be sealed. |
| What routine maintenance can I expect ? | Virtually nothing except occasional cleaning of the heating jaws. An automatic zeroing function can be run by the user every 6 months to assure accuracy of the positioning system. |
| How come this machine is so small and light ? | Unlike conventional sealers, we use very low mass heaters that can be rapidly cooled using only ambient air. This eliminates bulky refrigeration systems. The transformer-less heating system is very light and quick responding. The infinitely adjustable positioning system eliminates costly and heavy heating dies. |
| Can you seal custom tubing ? | The user can define parameters for their own tubing types or send us samples for custom program development. |
| Why is it called Hot Lips ? | If you look at the seal you can see two rounded edges that look like lips. Alternatively, consider "sealed with a kiss.." |
